The police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Investigations) foiled a dacoity attempt in the city by arresting four members of a gang along with arms and ammunition.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mandeep Singh Sidhu, said after receiving a tip-off the police conducted a raid and arrested all the four accused behind the PSPCL flats, near the railway crossing gate No. 23, when they (accused) were preparing for dacoity on Tuesday.

The police claimed to have recovered a 32 bore revolver along with 20 live cartridges; 312 bore country-made revolver along with two live cartridges; an iron rod; and a knife from the accused. The police also recovered a two-wheeler from them.

The accused were habitual criminals as they had, already, been booked in several cases of thefts and robberies in the past, the SSP said.

“The accused have been identified as Sanjeev Kumar and Sandeep Kumar of Uttar Pradesh, presently living in Patiala, besides Raj Kumar and Gulab Chand, who belong to Patiala. Pappu, alias Kaku, fifth member of the gang, is yet to be arrested,” the SSP added.

The accused had already committed over 20 robberies during 2018-19, the SSP said while adding that Pappu was the kingpin and mastermind of the gang.
