Chandigarh, December 12
The Federation of Sector Welfare Associations of Chandigarh (FOSWAC) raised voice against illegal vendors in the city during a press conference here on Wednesday.
Chairman Baljinder Singh Bittu and other members of the association said the FOSWAC was not in favour of allotting shops/booths to any vendor especially with proprietary rights.
Bittu said the UT Administration and the Municipal Corporation had already rehabilitated hundreds of such vendors in the past and the Sector 17 being the heritage sector should be free from all vendors to make sure its heritage remained intact.
He also said the Municipal Corporation was unnecessarily interfering with the door-to-door garbage collection policy. This had been creating problem for each and every resident of the city.
The Municipal Corporation should first declare draft policy for door-to-door garbage collection and then call for suggestions and objections from the public, the FOSWAC chairman said.
The efficiency of the Municipal Corporation was not hidden from anybody in handling the garbage processing plant in Dadu Majra, adjoining Sector 38 West, since long, he added.
