Chandigarh, September 4

With only a week left for student elections at Panjab University, former PUCSC presidents are now making their presence felt on the campus.

While Congress Haryana secretary Manoj Lubhana is rooting for NSUI candidate Nikhil Narmeta, Rajwinder Singh of PUSU and Kanupriya of the SFS were seen bucking up their party candidates.

Lubhana, who was the campus president in 2012 elections, said: “There’s certain kind of face value one adds to the election campaign. I have been here on the campus and have worked for the students. Seniors recognise me and that works well for the party.”

Balkaran Singh of ISA shared: “This is the third time that our party is contesting the elections. For the past two years, we have been on the winner’s list and since I founded the party, I like to have a closer look at where it is headed.”

Joining the chorus, the first woman PUCSC president, Kanupriya, is cheering for SFS candidate Priya. “I have been there, working at grass-roots level, meeting people and all this while, Priya has been with me. This is the second time we are contesting the elections and again, we have fielded a woman candidate. I think my presence with Priya gives the message of woman unity,” she opined.

Rajwinder Singh of PUSU, who won the elections way back in 2004, shared: “I have been in the thick of elections way back when they were quite a festival here at the PU. Things are a little too mellow now, but I did find many people who recognised me and I am just here to motivate them.”
