The district police have booked four members of a former MLA’s family in connection with a dowry death case.

Complainant Jai Prakash of Binjalpur village in Ambala district said his daughter Sulekha (30) got married to Ravi Kant in 2012.

He alleged her husband, brother-in-law Lalit Kumar, mother-in-law Sunita Devi and father-in-law Pradeep Kumar had been torturing her for dowry.

He said Pradeep Kumar informed them on Saturday that Sulekha died while sleeping at her home. She was rushed to a private hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

A case has been registered against Ravi Kant, Lalit Kumar, Sunita Devi and Pradeep Kumar of Mahavir Colony under Section 304 B (dowry death) of the IPC.

Ravi Kant is the grandson of former MLA Ram Prasad, who won the election from Ambala district.
