Amritsar, January 19
After the seizure of a huge quantity of spurious milk and milk products, including ghee from various places, health officials have initiated a drive to create awareness among food business operators, especially ghee makers.
District Health Officer Dr Lakhbir Singh Bhagowalia said, “We are holding meetings with ghee sellers and asking them to be sure of the quality of the product if they are procuring it from others. We are also educating the sellers about the legal provisions, including punishment and fine if they are found selling substandard products.”
According to Bhagowalia, apart from taking action under Food Safety and Standards Act, criminal cases will be registered against the traders found selling substandard milk and ghee. — TNS
