Fog grounds 3 flights, delays 15

Three flights were cancelled and 15 delayed due to fog at the Chandigarh international airport here today.

The Chandigarh-Sharjah flight departed late by an hour from the airport due to poor visibility. However, the flight from Sharjah to Mohali landed on time.

Other flights, including Chandigarh-Kolkata, Chandigarh-Delhi and Chandigarh-Mumbai, were delayed by around four hours.

Earlier, the flights from Delhi, Pune and Kullu to Mohali were cancelled due to bad weather. According to sources at the local airport, poor visibility left nearly 200 flights stranded at the Delhi airport till 11 am, which also upset the schedule of several flights at the local airport. “Today, the first flight arrived at the local airport at 12.50 pm, whereas usually the airport has its first flight at 8.30 am,” said sources.  Flights to Ahmedabad, Pune, Srinagar and Hyderabad also took off behind their scheduled time today.   Earlier, the airport premises witnessed a rush due to the delay in flights. 

“We came here to see off our relatives, but the flight was delayed by around three hours. We had no option but to sit here,” said Rajiv Kumar, a local resident, at the airport.
