Five booked for assaulting youth

The Patiala police have booked five persons for allegedly opening a fire at a youth and assaulting him. The complainant claimed of escaping the gunshots. He was hospitalised after being beaten up by the suspects. The police said one of the suspects had been identified as a resident of Patiala while the other four were yet to be identified.

The suspects have been booked under Sections 148, 149, 307, 323, 341 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 25/54/59 of the Arms Act.  

No arrest has been made so far. The incident took place on Sunday night in the city. The suspects had an altercation with Amarjeet Singh, a resident of Bharaj village in Bhawanigarh.

The police said the case was registered on the complaint of Amarjeet’s brother Dilpreet Singh. 

The police said Dilpreet told them that his brother Amarjeet had gone to a restaurant near the Rajindra Hospital and had parked his car near it. A group of persons came near his car and asked him to come out of it. 

The police said when Amarjeet attempted to resist them, one of the suspects allegedly fired at him. 

“We are investigating the matter. We do not have any proof of the alleged firing,” said the police.
