Jalandhar, December 29

The first meeting of the newly-organised Jalandhar Chapter of ‘Society for the promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth, (Spic Macay) will take place at Eklavya School in Jalandhar on January 5.

After a considerable lull in Jalandhar, where Spic Macay had been missing in action for the past several years, the Spic Macay has now initiated efforts to establish a new Jalandhar chapter.

Spic Macay, the countrywide body headed by its founder Dr Kiran Seth, has been holding its Winter Convention 2018 – from December 26 to 31-during the ongoing 143rd Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan.

At a meeting of Spic Macay in Jalandhar today, Ruhani and Ashim Sondhi were declared conveners of the Jalandhar Chapter.

A total of 50 students participating in the convention from across the country, will get lessons in ‘pranayama’, ‘Nada yoga’ and ‘Hatha yoga’ by Dr Prem Kumar from December 27 to 30.

At the end of the convention a heritage walk has also been organised for students at Amritsar to the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh to introduce students of the history of the state.

Speaking about the convention, Dr Kiran Seth said, “The aim is to promote a ‘satvik’ approach’ among students. They have been following a regimen and becoming well-versed with the age-old classical tradition at this 143-year-old ‘Sammelan’. While there is need to introduce this generation to classical music, Spic Macay also expanding its Jalandhar chapter to promote musical activity and workshops across the year for residents.”

The convention will provide a glimpse of activities revolving around Harivallabh. During the convention, participants will get an opportunity to spend time with ‘Gurus’ imbibing musical values from them. TNS
