Festivals harbingers of peace, prosperity: Mayor

Chandigarh, January 13

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation celebrated Lohri in Sector 48 here today. City MP Kirron Kher was the chief guest on the occasion.

Satya Pal Jain, Additional Solicitor General of India; Davesh Moudgil, Mayor; KK Yadav, Commissioner; Dinesh Kumar, Organisation Secretary, BJP, Punjab & Chandigarh; Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, Senior Deputy Mayor; MC councillors, senior officers and prominent persons of the city were present at the function.

The function began with the lighting of bonfire. It was followed by a cultural programme by women artistes and giddha. The theme of the Lohri celebration was “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”.

Mayor Davesh Moudgil extended greetings to the city residents and MC employees on the occasion of Lohri. He described these festivals as harbingers of peace, progress and prosperity.

He said the festival was a part of composite cultural heritage that strengthens the communal harmony and cultural fabric of the country. Such festivals should be celebrated with zeal and traditional fervour.
