Farmer turns kitchen garden waste into manure in Muktsar

Gurjinder Singh (39), a farmer and a resident of Ward Number 11 here, who owns agricultural land on Barkandi road, has set an example for many others as he is making manure from the biodegradable waste of his kitchen garden.

Gurjinder says that if we create trash then its disposal too is our responsibility. “I have spent five years in England and saw the lifestyle of people there. Thus, I adopted a similar style here. I started making manure from the biodegradable waste of my kitchen garden about one-and-a-half years ago and have got good results. With this manure, not just the size of vegetables has increased, it has helped me dispose of the waste organically,” says Gurjinder, an MBA.

Speaking further, he adds, “The manure is prepared in nearly six months. Some people have drawn inspiration from me and now they are also experimenting. It is very easy as one has to just chop the waste of vegetables and cover it with soil for six months.”

Gurjinder, however, rues that the district administration is not helping in promoting the use of biodegradable waste generated in our homes.
