The air quality in the city is dipping owing to stubble-burning, leading to an envelope of haze and smog in the district. The weather and air pollution is getting worse as the visibility is plummeting to below 500 m which is half of the visibility levels on a normal day.
The smog has led to irritation in eyes and respiratory problems for the residents. Despite hue and cry over smog and pollution due to stubble -burning, it is still going on unabated in the district.
Taking serious note of this, a joint team of the Punjab Pollution Control Board and Agricultural Department has fined 75 farmers in the district so far. Moreover, 1,109 farm fires were spotted in the district till Wednesday.
