Factory blast: Toll 2, owner booked

LUDHIANA: The police have registered an FIR against the owner of DC Steels Limited, Jhabewal, following a blast in its unit in which one labourer had died while 11 others had sustained burn injuries.

The police have registered an FIR against the owner of DC Steels Limited, Jhabewal, following a blast in its unit in which one labourer had died while 11 others had sustained burn injuries.

The case has been under section 304A, 337, 338, 120 B IPC against owner Gurbaksh Singh, Baljinder Singh alias Balli, contractor Vijay Kumar and some unknown persons.

Meanwhile, another worker Ram Paswan, who was rushed to the PGI, Chandigarh, succumbed to his burn injuries on Saturday.

Earlier, the family members of the victims held a protest outside the industrial unit, demanding FIR against the owner.

The Labour Department has also started a probe to find the violations and lapses, if any that led to the blast. Sukhwinder Singh Bhatti, Assistant Director, said the factory had been sealed and a probe started to find the lapses. “Once we finalise the report, it will be submitted to the authorities for further action,” he added.
