Faridabad, September 4

Commuting between Faridabad and the national capital of Delhi is going to get smoother with the construction of a new road along the Yamuna river in the district.

Announcing this, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment and local MP Krishan Pal Gurjar said here that the work on the construction of a new road has already been launched and is expected to be operational within a year.

Addressing a meeting at Mahwatpur village of the district on Tuesday evening, Gurjar said that both the state and Union government had been working on increasing connectivity within the cities located in the NCR. The move to construct a new road along the Yamuna is a part of that initiative.

Claiming that while the project of six-laning of National Highway-19 connecting Badarpur border with Agra had already been done at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore, he said another project of providing a 12-lane highway to connect Delhi with Palwal is in the pipeline.

Giving details of the road, he said the project would cost Rs 23 crore and it is likely to be opened for use next year. The length of the road between Mahawatpur and Delhi border will be 13 km. Work on the project is being carried out by the PWD wing of the state government.

Krishan Pal Gurjar also laid the foundation stone of two new roads. The two new roads are the one that will connect Mahwatpur and Basantpur villages and the dividing road of Sector 28 and 31 in the city. The budget of these roads will be Rs 9.81 crore and Rs 4 crore respectively.

Claiming that work on the expansion of the bypass highway in the city would also be taken up soon, he said the departments concerned had been told to remove all encroachments and bottlenecks as early as possible.
