Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked the Local Government Department to expedite the process of starting the work on sewage treatment plant (STP) at Goraya. The DC, who conducted inspection at the various government offices in Phillaur and Goraya, said the work would be carried out at a cost of Rs 16 crore and needed to be completed at the earliest to facilitate the people. Besides solving the sewerage problem, this would also help making the city clean and green.
He said: “The work needs to be completed at the earliest and a plan must be evolved at the earliest to assure optimum use of the treated water for the irrigation purpose.”
The DC also checked the record of the Executive Officer of Goraya Municipal Council and Naib Tehsildar Goraya. He asked the officials concerned to maintain proper record and registers of their work besides ensuring proper public dealing to benefit the people. Sharma also interacted with the general public and enquired about the services being provided by the administration at these offices.
Sharma also conducted inspection at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office, Tehsildar Office, Municipal Council office, fard kendra, treasury office, Block Development and Panchayat Officer office and others in Phillaur.
He also asked the officers to ensure optimum utilisation of the STP to ensure zero discharge of polluted water in rivers and drains. The DC also asked the officers to accord top priority to the works of general public visiting their offices.
The DC categorically said the motive of inspection was not fault-finding but to streamline the working of government offices. He said such inspections would be carried in future for benefitting the general public. He was accompanied by SDM Vineet Kumar and Tehsildar Tapan Bhanot.
