Exhibition in memory of Brig Chandpuri begins

CHANDIGARH: As part of the Republic Day celebrations, an exhibition to pay tributes to Brigadier KS Chandpuri, a recipient of the Maha Vir Chakra for his acts of gallantry in the 1971 Battle of Longewala against Pakistan, has been organised at Bestech Square Mall here.

As part of the Republic Day celebrations, an exhibition to pay tributes to Brigadier KS Chandpuri, a recipient of the Maha Vir Chakra for his acts of gallantry in the 1971 Battle of Longewala against Pakistan, has been organised at Bestech Square Mall here. Brigadier KS Chandpuri, a well-known resident of Chandigarh, had passed away recently.

Paintings, pictures, war memorabilia, battlefield trophies and mementos belonging to Brig Chandpuri have been showcased at the exhibition titled “Salute the Real Heroes”, which will continue till January 27. A documentary film related to the war hero’s life was also screened.

Brig Chandpuri’s wife Surinder Kaur and eldest son Hardeep Chandpuri were present on the occasion. A live T-shirt printing on the Battle of Longewala is being conducted and a war book display area has also been created.

The Battle of Longewala was fought in the deserts of Jaisalmer in Rajasthan during the 1971 Indo-Pak War where a company of 120 men of the Punjab Regiment held back a massive attack launched by a Pakistani brigade. The battle has been immortalised by Bollywood film “Border”.
