Exams are approaching and students are on their toes. While they are busy preparing for exams at coaching centres and at home, it is important to keep calm and do not take too stress. Even parents need to be watchful of their kids and instead of giving them pressure of marks, they should listen to their problems.

The Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences of Fortis Hospital conducted a ‘Pro-Social Peer Moderator Programme’, an initiative of Fortis School Mental Health Programme. The workshop was conducted by Dr Jagjot Singh, Consultant Psychiatrist, Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana. Dr Jagjot said: “Remember, exams may be important at the time but they are only a small part of life and not the heart of life”.

Teachers and students from schools of Ludhiana were trained during the workshop to become peer trainers for fellow students in their respective schools.

The programme was a unique platform for students to learn application-based life skills through interactive workshops focussing on effective planning and organisation, scientific tips and techniques for effective studying and coping strategies to deal with exam anxiety.

Meanwhile, the Punjab School Education Board has given tips to students on dealing with exam stress. It has asked the students to have self-confidence and contact teachers if they face any problem. Students were urged to take short breaks while preparing for the exams and also to revise the old sample papers to have an idea of the exam pattern.
