Ludhiana, November 15

Disclosures made by a former scribe of an online news portal, who was nabbed by the Basti Jodhewal police with heroin, have led to the arrest of four snatchers, who were his clients.

The suspect has been identified as Mohmmad Islam, a resident of Bank Colony, Noorwala Road. Four of his clients, who were involved in several incidents of snatching, have been identified as Narinder Singh, alias Kaka, of Anandpuri Colony; Sourav Verma, alias Suniara, of Kailash Nagar Road; Vishal of Bawa Colony and Talwinder Singh, alias Bedi, of Lajpat Nagar.

The police recovered 11-gram heroin, 1,350 banned tablets and Rs 28,600 from Mohammad Islam. They have recovered 15 stolen mobile phones from his clients, which they had looted from residents at separate places in the city, one motorcycle and one scooter.

Additional DCP Gurpreet Singh Sikand, ACP-North Lakhvir Singh Tiwana and Basti Jodhewal SHO Madhvi Sharma addressed a press conference on Thursday.

Sikand said Islam earlier worked with a news channel, 7 Star, but he was not at present attached with any media.

During his questioning, he revealed that he got the heroin from Sonu of Talwandi village. The Salem Tabri police conducted a raid, but Sonu escaped. However, the police recovered 8-gram heroin from his motorcycle which he had abandoned on the road.

The ADCP said Islam was already facing two cases of cheating and fighting.

“We are inquiring about the other local links of the smuggler. Property and bank details of the smuggler will also be looked into. His property can be attached by taking it as receipts from the illegal trade,” said the ADCP.
