The Haryana Government has asked its departments to implement the recommendations of the anti-corruption watchdog — the Lokayukta — with the ultimate aim of ensuring transparent and corruption-free administration.

The office of the Chief Secretary, in an official communication to all administrative secretaries and heads of the departments, asked them to take necessary action as per the government instructions whenever a reference and observation was received from the Lokayukta.

“The receipt of reference/observation from the Lokayukta should always be acknowledged and the Lokayukta should be informed well in time if due to some administrative or other unavoidable reasons it is not possible to take action or to submit requisite information within the stipulated period,” the communication asserted. The Chief Secretary’s office specially wanted the departments to ensure implementation of the recommendations of the Lokayukta with regard to ensuring zero tolerance to “corruption, inefficiency and maladministration”.

The communication said the Lokayukta had observed that in the police department when a complaint was lodged with the police station concerned, a fair inquiry was not conducted. “Such lapses on part of the police should be viewed seriously and stern action should be taken against such police officials. This will go a long way in improving the image of the police,” it said.

Quoting the Lokayukta, the communication said rampant encroachments on public places, especially in Gurugram and Faridabad districts in the National Capital Region, were not property dealt with. “Prompt action is not being taken against public servants, including the sarpanches, while they are still in office,” the communication said.
