Twelve children, including two girls, engaged as child labourers, were on Tuesday rescued from a godown located in Ward No. 21 of Kathua town.
All the rescued children were sent to a bal ashram after their medical examination at the Associated Medical College, Kathua.
“A team of the district administration along with Assistant Labour Commissioner raided the godown and rescued 12 children found working there,” Tehsildhar Kapil Kant Khajuria said.
All the children were engaged as labourers for making wires, he said, adding that the raid was conducted after a complaint was received from an NGO.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case in this connection and started an investigation.
