Chandigarh, February 19

In the wake of an incident in which a Sector 46 resident was arrested for allegedly killing his elderly parents, a delegation of the Second Innings Association (SIA) yesterday held a meeting with UT officials over the safety of senior citizens in the city.

The association members stated that the victims had lodged several complaints to the UT police against their son but cops did not take action on them, which led to the incident.

The SIA demanded a probe to unravel lapses, if any, on the part of the UT police.

Last week, the Mohali police had arrested Rajneesh Kumar (45) for the murder of his elderly parents. The decomposed bodies of the elderly couple were found in the north choe at Mullanpur around four months back.

SIA president RK Garg said they had demanded a dedicated police station for senior citizens so that complaints related to them were taken up on a priority.

The meeting was attended by BL Sharma, Secretary, Social Welfare, UT, besides other officials, including a representative of the Chandigarh Police.
