Students celebrate PM’s birthday

The students of Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School on Tuesday celebrated the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the school premises. The students wished Prime Minister on his 69th birthday.

A cake was cut by the Principal and students. The students also expressed joy by writing greetings to the PM on a paper.

School holds debate contest

Shiksha Niketan School, Gandhi Nagar, on Tuesday organised a Hindi debate competition on "Hindi Diwas". The competition was judged by Daljinder Kour and Ravneet Kour. Urvashi Sobti secured first position while second position was bagged by Shataksh Gupta. Amandeep Kour finished third in the competition. On the occasion, the school management distributed books as prizes to Class VIII students and certificates as a reward to the winners of the singing competition.

Workshop on curriculum reforms

A two-day workshop on "Curriculum Reforms" organised by the Department of Home Science, University of Jammu, commenced on Tuesday. The theme of the workshop was "Updating and restructuring course curriculum for Master Degree programme in Human Development". Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean, Research Studies, University of Jammu, while speaking on the occasion said the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) provided an excellent platform to the university for initiating research and academic activities in tune with the changing times. The workshop stressed on skill development of skill-based curriculum.

Swachhta Pakhwada 

The Swachhta Pakhwada celebrations by Jammu Sanskriti School, Kathua, concluded on Tuesday. Various activities were conducted by the school to aware students, besides launching cleanliness drives. Special assemblies were organised on the school premises where students took pledge to keep the school as well as their surroundings clean. The students went to the District Police Lines, Kathua, to celebrate the pakhwada.

Display your talent event 

The events of group song and folk instrumental solo were conducted on Tuesday at 'RangTrang-Display Your Talent-2019' organised by the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu (JU), at Brig Rajinder Singh Auditorium. In group song Indian, the team of GCW, Parade, stood first, while the team from the Institute of Music and Fine Arts bagged the second position. The third position was shared by the teams of Government Degree College, RS Pura, and GDC, Samba. 

Inter-college chess tourney 

The inter-collegiate chess tournament of Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ) was organised by the Department of Students Welfare, CLUJ, at Government MAM College here on Tuesday. In men section, GGM Science College beat SPMR College of Commerce while Government MAM College got walkover against Government College of Education. In women section, SPMR College of Commerce beat Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar. 

Lecture on ill-effects of plastic 

International Volunteer Foundation chairman and CEO Kiran Kumar Sharma on Tuesday delivered a special lecture on "Ill-effects of plastic bags and the need to shift to cloth bags" to students at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra. He stressed on the need to shun plastic bags, bottles and other plastic made items and to embrace the idea of using cloth bags. He also spoke about massive cleanliness campaign "Save the Trikuta Mountains", which was jointly organised by the NSS wing of SMVDU along with the International Volunteer Foundation.
