Education Dept asks govt schools to conduct quiz competition

JALANDHAR:The State Education Department, in a circular released on Monday, has asked all government middle and government high and senior secondary schools, to conduct a school-level quiz competition on October 9 for subjects like, mathematics, science, English and social studies in order to prepare students for various competitive exams.

The State Education Department, in a circular released on Monday, has asked all government middle and government high and senior secondary schools, to conduct a school-level quiz competition on October 9 for subjects like, mathematics, science, English and social studies in order to prepare students for various competitive exams.

It has been made mandatory that all government middle schools students studying in Class VI to VIII and students of government high and senior secondary school studying in Class VI to X should participate in the competition. The questions asked will be of objective type, having one word answer. The quiz will be prepared from the syllabus of Class VI to X.

Besides, the quiz will contain questions that match the level of competitive exams so as to give students an in-hand experience of questions that are frequently asked in such exams. Besides, the District Education Officers have been asked to ensure full participation of students and smooth conduct of quiz following all the instructions issued by  department.

As per the circular, in the first phase of the quiz, all questions will be of maths, while in the second phase it will be of science, then English and social studies. There will be four rounds in the competition. The students will be put in different teams class wise.”  An official of the Education Department said, “The motive of asking schools to organise quiz competition is to help students in jogging their knowledge, as these types of competitions in the form of quiz, offer help to the students learn about various national and state-level competitive exams, its aspects and how to prepare and how to crack them.”

“For each correct answer, the student will get two marks while for the wrong answer there will be negative marking,” he added.
