The Election Commission of India today asked Delhi Police to file an FIR against self-proclaimed cyber expert Syed Shuja, who claimed he was part of the electronic voting machine (EVM) design team and that machines being used in India could be hacked.

Separately, a team of technical experts comprising Prof DT Shahani, Prof Emeritus, IIT Delhi, Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Bhilai, and Prof DK Sharma, Prof Emeritus, IIT Bombay, reconfirmed to the ECI that the EVMs were stand-alone machines designed to connect only amongst ECI-EVM units (ballot unit, control unit and VVPAT) through cables that remain in full public view, and there was no mechanism to communicate with any device through wireless communication. All versions of ECI-EVMs were regularly and rigorously tested against low to high wireless frequencies, it asserted.

Meanwhile, the Electronics Corporation of India said Shuja had neither been on its rolls nor associated in the design of EVMs between 2009-2014.
