Two drunken policemen are believed to have driven their car into two vehicles in Nawanshahr on Thursday.

The two policemen have been identified as head constables Labh Singh and Krishan Kumar—both posted at the 82 Battalion Punjab Armed Police (PAP), Chandigarh. Singh is believed to be the driver of the vehicle that went out of control, hitting two vehicles, one of which was an official gypsy belonging to Jandiala Guru Member of Legislative Assembly Sukhwinder Singh Danny.

The lawmaker wasn’t in the car at the time of the accident.

The impact of the accident caused the gypsy to overturn.  The other vehicle is also believed to be severely damaged, but nobody was seriously was wounded in the incident. Police found nine bottles of liquor in the suspects’ vehicle.

The cops have been booked for rash driving (Section 279 of the Indian Penal Code), as well as sections of the Punjab Excise Act.

The two policemen were arrested but released on bail later, Sadar Banga SHO Rajiv Kumar said.
