Drugs, illicit liquor seized; 3 held

Two persons were nabbed with 5.3 kg of charas and 1.5 kg of opium, respectively, here today. They were identified as Niranjan Singh from Bihar and Ishwar Lal from Madhya Pradesh. Both have been booked by the Phillaur police.

Jalandhar SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said during a naka near the Sutlej bridge, the police saw a man getting down from a bus coming from the Ludhiana side. The man, with a bag on his arm, was heading fast towards the Shani Mandir. When asked, the man revealed his identity as Niranjan Singh, a resident of Motihari in Bihar. On being investigated, a plastic carry bag was found in his bag in which charas was kept. The bag contained 5.3 kg of charas. He was arrested and a case under Sections 20, 16 and 85 has been registered against him at the Phillaur police station.

In the second incident, during a naka near the Sutlej bridge in Phillaur, the Phillaur police nabbed a man identified as Ishwar Lal from Mandsaur, MP. On being checked, 1.5 kg of opium was found in a bag which he was carrying with him. A case under Sections 20, 16 and 85 has been registered against him in this regard.

In another incident, the police today arrested a city-based man for selling illicit liquor and hoarding it illegally at his home during a raid.

Ram Kishan, a resident of Tajpur Colony, who had been selling illegal liquor brought from other states by falsely claiming that the same was made in Punjab, was arrested.

He had been selling the liquor without any licence.

A case under Section 61 of the Excise Act and Section 420 of the IPC has been lodged against Kishan at the Lambra police station. During the raid, 32 bottles of Rockstar whiskey (meant for sale in Arunachal Pradesh) were found from him. During investigation, it was revealed that Kishan has seven cases lodged against him in the past. The police said having studied up to Class X, the suspect was a qawwal by profession. He had been selling liquor for the past four years, regarding which he had already several cases lodged against him.

Two nabbed with intoxicant injections

Nawanshahr: The police have arrested two persons for possessing intoxicant injections. According to the police, the accused, Manjinder Singh and Jaswant Singh, both residents of Baisa village, were arrested during a checking of vehicles at by the police at the Jabbowal village T-point.

As many as 48 intoxicating injections were recovered from their possession. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Nawanshahr police station against them.

The police said both accused would be presented in the court tomorrow and it would be investigated that if they had any involvement in other cases.
