MANDI: Doctors held a two-hour pen-down strike here on Tuesday to express solidarity with the doctor, who was assaulted in a primary health centre on Saturday, when she was on duty.

Doctors held a two-hour pen-down strike here on Tuesday to express solidarity with the doctor, who was assaulted in a primary health centre on Saturday, when she was on duty.

Since then the victim is in a state of trauma and accused is still absconding. Doctors wore black badges and were demanding his immediate arrest and protection to the doctors on duty. Due to the strike, health services were affected in the district.

Doctor Vishal Jamwal, general secretary of the Himachal Medical Officers Association, Mandi, said, “We are demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and a strict punishment for the crime. The pen-down strike will continue for three days. If the police fail to nab the culprit, the doctors will go on a full-day strike.”

SP Gurdev Chand Sharma said 14 suspects were rounded up but the victim denied their involvement. — TNS
