“The deputations of Medical Officers will be cancelled to provide quality health care facilities in the state government hospitals, especially those falling in the border and remote areas,” said Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu in the maiden meeting with all Civil Surgeons here today.

The minister said the Civil Surgeons should ensure in their respective hospitals that doctors only prescribed medicines available in the government hospitals so that the needy people did not have to buy medicines from private chemists at exorbitant prices.

Sidhu said to further improve the performance of hospitals and streamlining their functioning, 535 nurses (ANM) were recruited under the National Health Mission last month and another 114 nurses would be recruited by the last week of June. The minister also felicitated SMOs for good performance.
