Cysts in different organs – kidneys, uterus, ovaries, brain and sometimes in bones - are a major health hazard. You may find cysts in many parts of our body. Cyst is a calcified structure resembling an egg with shell outside and fluid inside. It keeps growing in number and size. Today I will be discussing about the cysts prevalent in ovaries. It is one of the commonest one being found in modern times, especially in young females.

Environmental and climatic changes, improper eating habits, use of preservatives chemicals and pesticides add to the occurrence of the disease. Modern-day lifestyle, lack of exercise and mobility adds to it.

PCOD leads to hormonal imbalances

Poly-cystic ovarian disease (PCOD) is a nomenclature given to the presence of multiple cysts in ovaries. It is also called PCOS, or Stein Leventhal syndrome, with the presence of accompanying symptoms of amenorrhea, acne and hirsutism i.e. unwanted growth of hair due to increased secretion of male hormone or androgens in some patients. Menses are irregular in reproductive stages of females; which either get delayed or are absent due to this disease. One will find hormonal imbalance in many patients. Increased male hormone and decreased progesterone hormone can lead to increased endometrial thickening thus causing endometrial hyperplasia, DUB i.e. dysfunctional uterine bleeding, further may lead to uterine cancer. This syndrome can lead to insulin resistance, weight gain, obesity acne and infertility. This condition may lead to increased levels of lipids, testosterone hormone, CRP levels, increased chances of coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

How to detect it

Although the diagnosis of PCOS can be done from the characteristic symptoms itself, there are some laboratory tests to confirm or rule out this condition. Several tests can be done for diagnosis by estimation of male hormone levels, such as DHEA and testosterone, gonadotropin hormones produced in brain thyroid adrenals and ovaries. Patient should go for ultrasound scanning as most of the females have polycystic ovaries, which in the scanned picture shows numerous cysts, giving an impression of Chain of Lakes pattern. Although in other conditions where ovarian or adrenal gland tumours are suspected, CT scan or MRI scan maybe suggested by the physician.

Homeopathy cures

Homeopathy has a great role in treating such conditions. Only hormone replacement treatment is given in modern science as a palliative treatment, as they claim that there is no cure for this disease at various websites. As per homeopathy, this a deep- rooted miasmatic and constitutional disorder, which can be cured with well selected remedies, after careful case-taking. Doctors should and must, always consider using anti-miasmatic drugs, keeping in mind the constitutional build of the patient, mental symptom and particulars, while carefully selecting the remedy. Lot many of females have been cured of this disease and are leading healthy life and have been blessed with off-springs, thus removing the infertility tag. Exercise, walk and diet control are major contributing factors in the line of treatment.
