Muktsar, February 11

One-and-a-half-years after the death of a 23-year-old pregnant woman due to negligence on the part of Civil Hospital staff, the accused doctor on Monday surrendered before a local court, which granted her bail the same day.

On August 20, 2017, a partially burnt pair of scissors was found by the family members of Sharanjit, a resident of Sarawan Bodla village, while collecting ashes.

The victim was taken to the hospital on August 15, where she gave birth to a baby boy. She died on August 17.

Her father Gurnam Singh had accused the hospital staff of forgetting the scissors in his daughter’s abdomen, which claimed her life. The family had then filed a complaint with the Sadar Muktsar police and also a petition in the court, seeking strict action against the hospital staff.

The court has directed the accused to appear on February 28. — TNS
