A doctor has been booked for causing death by negligence after a 19-year-old girl allegedly died during an operation at a local hospital here.
Dr Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Ajit Nagar here, has been accused of causing death by negligence.
The police said victim Harleen Kaur, who had participated in national swimming competitions, was admitted to a local hospital on September 10 for treatment of hernia.
According to the police, her condition got deteriorated after two days and she was shifted to another hospital.
Deceased’s father Rajwinder Singh, a resident of Anand Nagar in Tripuri, said doctors at the hospital declared her brought dead.
Later, during police investigation, it was found that the girl had died during an operation earlier.
On the complaint of the deceased’s father, a case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the doctor.
Gurdeep Singh, in-charge of the Model Town police post, said, “We have registered a case against the doctor for causing death by negligence.” He added that efforts were on to arrest him.
