The plastic waste lying in the community centre adjoining Wellington Estate, Dhakoli, has left residents fuming, who complained that the authorities concerned had failed to clean it. The scattered waste lying for the past three days not only added to the woes of the residents, but has also become an eyesore.

The leftover of a marriage function, organised at the community centre on October 4, has been lying unattended since then. The residents themselves had to arrange a sweeper to get it cleaned after it started raising a stink.

“Even a day after the function, the staff concerned failed to clear the leftover food, disposable plates and other garbage which were littered within the premises of community centre,” said Dr Laabh Singh, a resident of the Wellington Estate.

Kulbhushan Sharma, President of the Unified Residents Welfare Association (Urwa) said the MC should ensure that the premises of the community centre were cleaned the very next day after any function. He added if the authorities concerned could not ensure the maintenance of the community centre, it should hand it over to the RWA, so that it is maintained well.

Sharma added that the MC authorities should also construct a storeroom and a kitchen so that it would help them in organising a number of events, besides other things.

The MC officials said if they found any sort of laxity on the part of the organizers, proper measures will be taken to collect and dispose of the used plates. Penalty will also be imposed on them.
