Having served as Punjab Congress chief, former Jalandhar MP Mohinder Singh Kaypee today said he was completely disillusioned with the party after it rejected his claim for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat.

Kaypee called the decision to deny ticket to him as his “political murder”. “I will not spare those who conspired against me. My career has been spotless. It has been hard for me, my family and supporters to accept the party’s decision to sideline me,” said the leader.

Kaypee is also peeved at three ticket given in one family. While Chaudhary Santokh Singh is a sitting MP, his son Vikramjit Chaudhary unsuccessfully contested from the Phillaur Assembly seat and nephew Chaudhary Surinder Singh is Kartarpur MLA.

Elected MP from Jalandhar in 2009, Kaypee had contested from Hoshiarpur in 2014, but lost to BJP’s Vijay Sampla. He had also lost from Adampur in 2017 and his wife Suman Kaypee from Jalandhar West in 2012 Assembly polls.

On reports that he might join the SAD, Kaypee said he had always been a Congress leader. On whether he could contest independently, he said, “I am yet to discuss the issue with my family and supporters.”
