Accusing the Congress of protecting the guilty, Akali MP Prem Singh Chandumajra told the Lok Sabha that innocent persons belonging to a particular community were killed under a pogrom and that the government should declare the 1984 riots as genocide.
Speaking during the Zero Hour, he targeted Congress leader Kamal Nath, saying that someone facing similar allegations had become the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He said his party would hold protests against Nath outside Parliament and in Bhopal.
Notably, the verdict coincided with the swearing-in of Congress’ new governments in MP and Rajasthan. Senior BJP and SAD leaders attacked the Opposition party for “delaying and obstructing justice and “shielding the guilty” in the 34-year-old case.
