The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has rescued 16-year-old pregnant girl, a victim of trafficking, from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan.

The minor, who is nine months pregnant, was trafficked from Rourkela (Odisha) in December 2017 and forcefully married off to a 40-year-old man for Rs 4 lakh.

The child was kidnapped by her own relatives who sold her off and she was raped by the 40-year-old man.

The DCW had received a complaint from the minor’s father, who is a government officer in Railways, about his missing daughter.

The father said despite getting an FIR registered in Rourkela about his daughter’s kidnapping in December 2017, his daughter remained missing and the police was unable to trace her.

“After about 10 days, he came to know that his daughter had been forcefully married off to a 40-year-old man,” said the commission.

After two weeks, the father was shocked to see 14-year-old child dressed up like a married woman with red clothes, bangles and vermilion when the Rajasthan Police brought her to Rourkela.

The girl said on a day when her father had gone to work, she was kidnapped from her house by two relatives. In Rourkela, she was taken to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) where she was handed over to her father, but the police took custody of the girl and forcefully sent her back to Rajasthan.

Finally, the father approached the DCW on January 24, 2019, when his complaint was forwarded to the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of the commission headed by member Kiran Negi. After the rescue, the DCW is handedng over the child to her father. — TNS
