Chandigarh, June 25

Nearly three weeks after Cabinet reshuffle, OP Soni today finally assumed office as the Minster of Medical Education and Research. He will also look after the freedom fighters and food processing departments.

The leader had been sulking all these days over the change of his ministry and had publicly expressed his resentment. He was earlier Education Minister and had played a major role in forming the new online transfer policy, which was released today by Vijay Inder Singla.

Soni had claimed he had worked hard work to improve the working of the education department, but despite that he was divested of the charge “at the behest of bureaucracy”.

Soni’s supporters have been pointing out that for the first time in 30 years, pass percentage of Classes X and XII in government schools had surpassed 85 per cent.

Soni took charge in the presence of MLA Dr Dharmvir Agnihotri and Additional Chief Secretary Satish Chandra. — TNS
