The region, that is in the grip of a severe cold wave, witnessed a partially cloudy weather along with a light drizzle today in the afternoon. The intense cold wave, that is lashing the region, is expected to stay for some more days going by the met department’s forecast.

After experiencing a bright sun for the last few days, city residents today woke up to a cloudy sky. The sun continued to play hide and seek throughout the day before a drizzle set in even as dark clouds covered the sky late in the afternoon.

The day started on a pleasant note. However, at around 3 pm, rain-laden clouds appeared over the city and a slight drizzle was reported from different parts of the region. The clouds kept returning but were ultimately blown away by the wind, putting paid to hopes of a heavy rainfall lashing the region.

However, there could be a reason for cheer as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast says Bathinda and its nearby regions could experience rain tomorrow as well. As per the met prediction, rain is likely to commence from today and the weather is expected to continue for two more days.

As per the forecast by the agri-met department of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) regional station, Bathinda, the city today witnessed a drizzle and the chill remained present throughout the day.

The maximum temperature recorded today was 18.5 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature was 10 degree Celsius.

According to the weathermen, there are chances of light rain with acompanying thundershower taking place in the next 48 hours as well. The night temperature, however, may increase during the period.

Children suffer various health problems during the winter season and need extra care, said Dr Ajay Garg, a child specialist at the Ludhiana Hospital in the city. Common cold and flu are the most common problems faced during this season and parents are generally advised not to give antibiotics to children without advice from a qualified doctor as antibiotics target only bacteria, not viruses.

Dr Ajay Garg also suggested that parents should take extreme care and ensure their children are properly covered.
