Sangrur, February 4

Under the banner of the Zameen Prapti Sangharsh Committee (ZPSC), Dalits from various villages today staged a protest on the Sangrur-Patiala road at Balad Kalan village for their long-pending demands.

Their main demands included plots from village common land, cancellation of FIRs registered against ZPSC members during the SAD-BJP tenure and arrest of accused involved in the murder of Gurdev Kaur, who died after suffering injuries in a clash in Jhaloor village in 2016.

“We have been waiting for the fulfilment of our demands for the last few years, but the government is not taking any action. Though we lifted our blockade today after assurances from the authorities, we will intensify our agitation if the authorities failed to take action,” said Gurmukh Singh, a ZPSC leader.
