Jalandhar, February 11

Referring to the life sentence awarded to Babbar Khalsa International activists Arwinder Singh, Surjit Singh and Ranjit Singh in a 2016 case by a Nawanshahr sessions court, the Dal Khalsa said they were not satisfied with the court indicting the accused merely due to possession of books related to Sikh struggle and other Khalistani literature.

The Dal Khalsa today announced to hold a sit-in in front of the Nawanshahr sessions court on February 13 from 11 am to 3 pm.

Party head advocate HS Cheema said: “I feel that the judgment of the Nawanshahr Sessions Judge, sentencing three youths for sedition and unlawful activity has far reaching implications on the right to dissent and the right to free expression. We will take all legal and civil steps against the move.”

There is no violent activity, either by the accused or by anyone else allegedly influenced by the accused, said Kanwarpal Singh, spokesperson for the Dal Khalsa, adding that “We appreciate the concern shown by Dr Dharamvira Gandhi, MP, Patiala.” — TNS
