Faridkot, February 19

A day after former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini reportedly dubbed the arrest of Inspector General of Police Paramraj Singh Umranangal by a special investigation team (SIT) of the Punjab Police as a politically motivated move, the Dal Khalsa alleged that to blackmail the ruling class of the turbulent times in the state, the former DGP had raked up the Referendum 2020 proposal.

The SIT is progressing in the right direction and we urge the state government not to to be taken in by the false alarm of Sumedh Saini who knows that his arrest is imminent, said Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh.

Justice Ranjit Singh has more than adequately indicted Umranangal for his involvement in the deaths of two protesters at Behbal Kalan in 2015.

“Saini’s unlawful acts cry for legal action against him and the people of the state, especially the aggrieved families,  eagerly await for the day when the law will catch him”, said Kanwar Pal Singh.

It has been established that punishing guilty policemen does not demoralise the force. On the contrary, punishing them instills the fear among those police personnel who want to act beyond the ambit of the rule of law. Enforcing the rule of law is the prime duty of the state, he said.
