Locals are at loggerheads with the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) over the construction of staff quarters of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

The CTA has written to the SP, Kangra, and Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Dharamsala, and other authorities demanding security at the construction site.

In the letter, a copy of which was available with The Tribune, the CTA authorities have said they are constructing staff quarters on their land after the permissions by the MC. Some locals are objecting to it, alleging that the construction is on the common land, encroaching on a footpath passing through the area.

The CTA has termed the allegations false. It has alleged that certain miscreants are threatening the labour carrying out construction and has demanded police protection.

The move of the CTA to erect a gate at the entrance of the establishments of the Tibetan government-in-exile was also opposed by locals. After resistance from locals, the CTA had dropped the plan to erect a gate. However, it has alleged that certain locals parked their taxis just outside the entrance of their establishment causing harassment to dignitaries.

Sources said CTA officials had also apprised the Union Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the problems being faced by them.

Additional Commissioner, Dharamsala MC, Prabhat Chaudhary said they had no objection to the constructions being carried out by the CTA. They were carrying out constructions as per the approved maps.
