The satellite tracking system has been installed to check forest fires during summers, this was disclosed by Forest Minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri while presiding over a review meeting of the Forest Department here today.
He said under the satellite tracking system, continuous vigil was being kept on the forest wealth and simultaneously forest officials would receive SMS on their mobiles through the system.
He said no major forest fire had been reported in the state though a few incidents were reported from the forests of Kangra district where the flames were controlled.
The Forest Minister said an awareness campaign was being launched for protection of forest wealth from fire for which 693 participatory committees had been constituted. — TNS
