Rahul Bhat, who made a smashing comeback with Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly, has never been busier. He has recently bagged the lead role in Gangaajal 2. He talks about the movie and more.
On Gangaajal 2
Well, I am blessed that I have a lead role and Priyanka Chopra is my female lead. I am so lucky to be working with accomplished directors like Anurag Kashyap, Abhishek Kapoor, Sudhir Mishra and now Prakash Jha. Gangaajal was a great movie and I am honoured to be doing the sequel.
Preparation time
The film is set in Bhopal, in the heartland of India. So I am working on a lean look for the same. I am also working on my body language and accent. We start shooting in May.
On Katrina Kaif
I had a great time working with her on the sets of Fitoor. She is such a huge star and very beautiful. At the same time, she is extremely humble, hard-working and easy to work with.
The big break
I quit acting for a couple of years after Heena and movies like Nayee Padosan. I made shows for television but did not act in them. I was pretty angry and did not like the roles I was given. I did not think I would not act for ten years. Then Anurag Kashyap gave me Ugly which got me international recognition too, along with new films. I have finally made it! I am thankful to Anurag Kashyap. We have known each other since our struggling days and he has always been supportive and encouraging.
In the pipeline
Ugly opened a lot of doors for me and gave me a new career in Bollywood. Who gets the chance to start acting again in lead roles at the age of 38? I feel extremely fortunate. I have so many good movies like Aur Devdas with Sudhir Mishra, Gangaajal 2 with Prakash Jha, Fitoor with Abhishek Kapoor. I am looking forward to working with directors like Vishal Bhardwaj and Imtiaz Ali. They are definitely on my wish list.
