Patiala, August 10

The court of the Civil Judge Senior Division has ordered the sale of the office building of the local Improvement Trust for realisation of pending payment over the acquisition of land. The dues are to the tune of Rs 21.67 lakh.

The land acquisition collector gave complainants compensation of Rs 214 per sq yard over the acquired property in 2001. It was increased to Rs 750 per sq yard by the District Judge of the land acquisition tribunal in September 2012. The complainants moved the High Court, which increased the rate to Rs 840 per sq yard in September 2013.

As the trust failed to release the full payment, the property of the trust’s office building was attached in March 2014 and sale warrants were passed in August that year. The trust made part payment of Rs 40 lakh, after which the sale warrant was cancelled.

The notice for the sale of the property was released on August 6. Harpreet Singh Sudan, chairman, Improvement Trust, said, “We will resolve the issue before the site is put up for sale.”
