Counselling for MBBS begins at Bathinda AIIMS

Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today said another milestone had been achieved in the development of AIIMS, Bathinda, with counselling starting for the first batch of its MBBS students.

According to a release issued here, Harsimrat said the counselling started today for all candidates as per the merit list. She said as many as 3,884 candidates were eligible to participate in the first round of counselling for 15 AIIMS institutions. She said there would be four rounds of counselling to allow students to choose the institution of their choice. Earlier in March, a PGIMER team deputed by the Union Health Ministry gave the go-ahead for the start of the first batch of MBBS for AIIMS, Bathinda, at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, till the AIIMS campus gets ready. The institute will offer 100 seats and the classes are expected to start in July.

Meanwhile, the work on OPD block is underway and it is likely to start functioning within a couple of months. Coming up on 177 acres on the outskirts of Bathinda at a cost of Rs 925 crore, AIIMS would be a 750-bed premier medical institute, which would boast of 10 specialty and 11 super-specialty departments. It would have 16 ultramodern state-of-the-art operation theatres along with a 100-seat medical college and a 60-seat nursing college.
