Kurukshetra, January 21
The police have asked Kurukshetra University (KU) to monitor the presence of students at its hostels. They have identified four suspects who allegedly tried to kidnap a girl hosteller while she along with three friends was moving around the city, SP Surinder Pal Singh said on Monday. Efforts were being made to nab them, he added.
On Saturday night, four students, including two girls, were moving around the city allegedly in an inebriated condition. They are second-year students of a postgraduate course and live in hostels on the campus.
According to a police complaint lodged by one of the four students on Sunday night, three of them consumed alcohol on the campus. Later, they decided to spend the night at a local hotel but were not given rooms.
The complainant said they borrowed a two-wheeler from a friend and together drove around the city.
A group of persons travelling in a car intercepted them on the Salarpur road. They allegedly tried to kidnap one of the girls and manhandled the boys. But they fled seeing other persons approaching. In the melee, the second girl student disappeared. Sensing trouble, the three other students called up the police.
However, the SP said a police team found the girl in a nearby area. “She was not in good senses, as the complaint said they had consumed alcohol,” he added.
Meanwhile, a university spokesperson said the KU was taking the incident seriously and corrective measures were being taken. The parents of the students were being informed about the conduct of their wards, he added.
