Cop shot at, two booked

AMRITSAR: A policeman attached with a PCR team of the Amritsar (Rural) police was shot at by two persons here on Thursday. The suspects have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh and Kishan, both residents of Sheikhupura Mohalla in Jandiala.

Amritsar, August 23 

A policeman attached with a PCR team of the Amritsar (Rural) police was shot at by two persons here on Thursday. The suspects have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh and Kishan, both residents of Sheikhupura Mohalla in Jandiala.  

The victim has been identified as Mandeep Singh of Bagga village. 

An old enmity is stated to be the reason behind the incident. The police have registered an attempt-to-murder case against the suspects. The police said raids were on to nab them. 

According to information, the victim was going to Sheikhupura Mohalla when the incident took place.

Victim’s wife Inderpal Kaur told the police that she received a call from her husband that he was going to Jandiala from Jania village when two persons on a scooter intercepted him. She said her husband told her that before he could understand, the suspects fired at him and fled the scene.

He was taken to Guru Ram Dass Hospital by the onlookers. His condition is said to be out of danger. He sustained a bullet injury in the stomach and underwent a surgery.

Sub-Inspector Tirlok Singh said a case under Sections 307 and 34 of the IPC had been registered against the suspects. 

He said the suspects had an old dispute with the victim and further investigations were on.
