Cop hurt trying to stop offender

A traffic cop was injured when he tried to stop a motorist who was talking on mobile phone near Elante Mall this evening. The cop’s wireless set also fell inside the car while stopping the motorist who managed to escape from the spot.

Sources said the cop, who was on duty near the mall, saw the motorist talking on a mobile phone while driving the car.

The cop signalled the driver to stop. Instead, suspect accelerated the car. The cop’s arm hit the vehicle and the wireless, he was holding, fell inside the vehicle.

Instead of stopping the car, the suspect sped away. The police were informed about the incident. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Industrial Area police station and initiated an investigation.

Police sources said the vehicle had the registration number of Ludhiana. — TNS
