Centre reduces court fee for litigants

The Central Government has issued a notification regarding reduction of the court fee for filing cases before the district consumer disputes redressal forums by complainants.

The notification issued on September 14, amends Section 9-A of the Consumer Protection Rules, 1987, which deals with the court fee applicable before the forum.

Earlier, for cases involving up to Rs 5 lakh, the case fee was Rs 200; for cases up to Rs 10 lakh the court fee was Rs 400; and for those up to Rs 20 lakh the case fee was Rs 500.

The demand draft should be made in the name of the president, Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, (name of) district.

As per the revised fee structure, no court fee has to be paid for disputes valued up to Rs 5 lakh, for disputes valued between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, the case fee is Rs 200 and for disputes valued between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, the case fee is Rs 400.

New fee structure

As per the revised fee structure, no court fee has to be paid for disputes valued up to Rs 5 lakh, for disputes valued between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10 lakh, the case fee is Rs 200 and for disputes valued between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, the case fee is Rs 400.
