Construction Skill Academy inaugurated at Palwal varsity

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday inaugurated the Construction Skill Academy at Shri Vishwakarma Skill University in Dudhola village of the district.

This is the first of its kind academy aimed at imparting specialised training in the field of building construction in the state.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the courses run by the university would usher in a new era in providing and honing the skills of unemployed youths. He said it would also open a plethora of opportunities for thousands of youths as demand of skilled employees would never recede.

Stating that Vishwakarma Skill University was unique in running job-oriented courses, he said starting a Construction Skill Academy (CSA) was a milestone.

The academy would train 250-500 youths annually and the first batch of workers trained in masonry and bar bending course would be ready in the next few months. As students would be trained in IT sectors also, the aspirants would be able to get hand on experience in the related field. The laboratory set up in the academy would support the construction workers to get certified in the field for better placement and job opportunities, he added.

The university had signed MoUs with various industrial units for running courses having a term from 15 days to three months, said a spokesperson.

The varsity has also decided to offer diploma, bachelor and masters degree in vocational courses for the first time.

“The programmes are aimed at providing structured skill qualifications to meet the existing and emerging job demands of the industry,” said Raj Nehru, Vice-Chancellor of the university. “These will be aligned to the National Occupational Standards and National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) to facilitate progression of trainees from certificate to doctoral level,” he said.
