Constable Veerpal Kaur does district proud again

MUKTSAR: Constable Veerpal Kaur of the Muktsar police has made the district proud again by winning a bronze medal in the 400m hurdle race in the South Asian Games, which are being held from December 1 to 10 at Kathmandu in Nepal.

Constable Veerpal Kaur of the Muktsar police has made the district proud again by winning a bronze medal in the 400m hurdle race in the South Asian Games, which are being held from December 1 to 10 at Kathmandu in Nepal.

Veerpal, who originally belongs to Ghagga village in Malout Assembly segment, has recently won a number of medals in the World Police and Fire Games at Chengdu in China and the 59th Open National Athletic Championship at Ranchi in Jharkhand. Speaking over a phone, Jaswant Singh, an uncle of Veerpal, said: “We got the good news on Friday that our daughter has won one more medal. She has made the entire district proud with her achievement. We wish her more success in future.”

He said Veerpal was scheduled to get married on December 9, but still preferred to go to Nepal to keep the momentum of her victory continue. “She is a passionate sportsperson. Everyone in the village is celebrating her success and giving her blessings. She is expected to reach here tomorrow.”

Notably, Veerpal, who is from a small agrarian family, had joined the Punjab police as a constable in 2017 under the sports category.
